WHO?
Bedalov Winery is a true family winery. They independently handle all the work, from tending the vineyards to producing and bottling the wine. This personal involvement in the entire process and the desire for continuous quality is evident in the special care given to each bottle of wine. Viticulture is a particular passion within the family, nurtured for many years. Winemaker Jakša, along with his family, continues this long-standing passion to reinforce the importance of wine in everyday life and to preserve the land for future generations. With family care and ecological production, each bottle is made from 100% estate-grown grapes, fully representing the authentic Dalmatian vineyard.
WHERE?
Bedalov Winery is located in Kaštel Kambelovac, near Split. On the southern slopes of Kozjak, at an altitude of 400 meters and a slope of 45%, in the location of Kambelovski gaj, lies the vineyard where the Bedalov family cultivates indigenous Dalmatian grape varieties. This position is ideal for organic viticulture due to its southern exposure, excellent ventilation, ideal temperatures, and prolonged sun exposure. In this perfect location, the grapes are bathed in sunlight and sea salt carried by the wind. Through organic farming, the vineyard has become a self-regulating natural ecosystem that requires minimal human intervention and no additional inputs.
WHY?
Dobričić, a minor Dalmatian indigenous variety in terms of planted area, gained attention when it was discovered to be one of the parents of the most famous Croatian red grape variety, Plavac Mali. Originating from the island of Šolta, it did not spread beyond the nearby Kaštela bay as a growing area. While the total number of producers bottling single-variety Dobričić can barely be counted on one hand, Jakša Bedalov is currently vinifying perhaps a textbook example. All practices from the vineyard to the cellar are aimed at preserving the unadulterated symbiosis of the variety, the region, and the winemaker. The wine exhibits earthy fruitiness, dusty minerality, and an ethereal balsamic descent.
