WHO?
Fantini Group was born in the small town of Ortona, in the Abruzzo region, in the heart of the Mediterranean. Established in 1994 by three partners – Filippo, Valentino, and Camillo, also known as the “three dreamers” because they were always able to realize their dreams no matter how impossible they seemed, to create today’s flagship of Southern Italy’s wine. It is here that the largest Italian “boutique winery” was created, implying maximum attention to detail starting from the vineyard.
WHERE?
Vigneti Zabù vineyards were planted in 2005 on the hills surrounding Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia. Crystal clear water creates an ideal microclimate for grape growing and protects the vines from the hot Sicilian summers. The vineyard follows an organic approach and is trained in the bush vine system. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, with nearly 107,000 hectares planted with grapevines, making it an integral part of Italian wine history.
WHY?
After pressing and a long fermentation in contact with the skins to extract color, body, and aromas, the wine ages 50% in barrels and 50% in cement tanks for about six months, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. This Nero d’Avola is of deep ruby color, with a bouquet interwoven with aromas of red and dark fruits, spicy elements, balsamic notes, and hints of eucalyptus. Full-bodied with balanced acidity and a long, mineral, spicy finish.
