One of the co-owners of this winery, Pedro Parra, is the world’s leading expert in soil. Winemakers Alberto Antonini and his Tuscan colleague, Antonio Morescalchi, were so impressed by the vineyards surrounding Mendoza that after their first trip to Argentina in 1995, they managed to convince several of their friends to join them in this joint venture.

WHERE?

Altos Las Hormigas is located in Luján de Cuyo, the only officially recognized appellation in Mendoza and one of the best wine-producing areas in the region. The grapes come from vineyards in Medrano, Barrancas, and Lulunta in Mendoza, situated between 900 – 1,000 meters above sea level. The climate here is semi-desert with hot days and cold nights, ultimately allowing for the development of complex aromatic components in the grapes.

WHY?

It is deep ruby in color. It possesses a beautiful and seductive bouquet of sweet cherries, fresh cranberries, herbal tea, and fresh figs. Elegant and rounded on the palate with the presence of violet and mint notes that further accentuate the fresh character of the fruit. The finish is marked by excellent balance of acidity and tannin structure with a striking mineral seal.

Altos Las Hormigas is located in Luján de Cuyo, the only officially recognized appellation in Mendoza and one of the best wine-producing areas in the region.
