Bob Betz worked as a winemaker on the estate after spending decades at Washington’s renowned winery, Chateau Ste. Michelle, and completing the Master of Wine program. However, in 2011, the Betz family sold the winery to the South African couple Steve and Bridgit Griessel, remaining part of the management team. Bob continued as a winemaker until 2016 and remains involved as a consultant.

WHERE?

The Betz Family Winery is a small wine producer in Washington, located in the Columbia Valley wine region. They source grapes through several partnerships in various subregions, dividing their catalog between Bordeaux- and Rhône-style red wines. Their most famous varieties are Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Grenache. Betz is best known for their red wines inspired by the French regions of Rhône and Bordeaux. They obtain their fruit from different vineyard partnerships in several Columbia Valley regions, including Yakima Valley and its subregion Snipes Mountain, Red Mountain, and Horse Heaven Hills.

WHY?

Deep red color. Red currant, cocoa powder, and masculine tobacco on the nose. Smooth and creamy on the palate for the 2011 vintage, with harmonious ripe acidity framing sweet aromas of red berry fruit, cherry, and cocoa powder. This floral, Merlot-based wine is supported by firm acids and tannins, yet it appears quite feminine in style.

This 2011 vintage, with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, certainly has the vitality and structure for long-term aging. During future aging, expect the emergence of cherry, dark plum, and cocoa powder aromas, while the palate softens to a harmonious, creamy texture.

[1010
1851,1853,1850,1852
0":"post-7359","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-red-wine","7":"product_tag-betz-en","8":"product_tag-bordeaux-blend-en-2","9":"product_tag-columbia-valley-en","10":"product_tag-sad-en","11":"pa_berba-2011-en","12":"pa_drzava-usa","13":"pa_regija-columbia-valley-en","14":"pa_vinarija-betz-en","15":"pa_vrste-vina-red-wine","17":"first","18":"outofstock","19":"shipping-taxable","20":"purchasable","21":"product-type-simple
["GET
