In 2005, the family decided, despite the initial idea of \u200b\u200bplanting an olive grove, to dedicate all their enthusiasm and vision to building vineyards in an area that had never been planted with grapevines before. Wines produced in Volarevi\u0107 vineyards bear the name Syrtis, which translates to Pond (also the name of the leading nursery in the Republic of Croatia, also owned by the Volarevi\u0107 family).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WHERE? <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Volarevi\u0107 vineyards are located in the area of Komarna. The project of building vineyards started in 2005 with the reclamation of karst terrain. Dense maquis was removed, and the stone was crushed to a depth of 60 cm to create the best possible conditions for grapevine growth. The entire vineyard area is on a southern exposure and has three types of insolation: sun &#8211; vine; sun &#8211; stone &#8211; vine; sun &#8211; sea &#8211; vine. Climatic and pedological conditions in the Komarna area favor organic production. High temperatures during the summer, constant winds, cold nights, harsh nature, and the diversity of plant and animal life create favorable conditions for grapevine cultivation.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WHY? <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Plavac Mali is a Croatian indigenous black grapevine variety, whose cultivation area is linked to the area of central and southern Dalmatia. It originated from the spontaneous crossing of two indigenous Croatian varieties: Crljenak Ka\u0161telanski (known worldwide as Zinfandel or Primitivo) and Dobri\u010di\u0107. Plavac Classic has been aged for two years in a combination of older and newer barrels (smaller and larger volumes) made of Croatian, French, and American oak. During the extended aging period, its innate wildness has taken on a more polished form.
