The Gašpar brothers produce wine in the small village of Umčani in the Vrgorac valley. They are dedicated to cultivating Croatian indigenous varieties such as Zlatarica, Plavka, Trnjak, and Vranac, which yield fantastic results in the Vrgorac area. An interesting fact about their vineyard is that it is underwater for 100 days a year, during which time the Gašpar brothers fish in their vineyard. Whether it is due to this, the grapes from the Vrgorac field produce very powerful and strong wines.

WHERE?

Jeka 2019, the most prominent wine made in collaboration with Daniel Čečavac (a sommelier and wine educator with the highest international diplomas), is a cuvee consisting of 50% Plavac from the famous Hvar location Medvid Bod, 25% Trnjak from the Gašpar brothers in Vrgorac, and another 25% Vranac from Imotski.

WHY?

Jeka connects the best Dalmatian terroir and indigenous black varieties. The combination of old vines and sparse soil ensures low yields and healthy, concentrated grapes. Jeka unites the islands with the Dalmatian hinterland, offering opulence and body, as well as finesse and freshness. It is produced from 50% Plavac Mali (Medvid Bod, Hvar), 25% Trnjak (Umčani, Vrgorac), and 25% Vranac (Bušanje, Imotski). The wine aged for 24 months in 50% new French extra fine grain 225L barrels (Tronçais), with the rest in two-year-old barrels. It further aged in the bottle for 8 months.

The wine, when aerated in the glass, opens up to warm Mediterranean aromas of dark fruit, carob, figs, and Mediterranean maquis.
