Pieropan’s estate spans 58 hectares of vineyards located on the rocky (volcanic) hills of Soave Classico. The Pieropan family has been producing wines in the Soave appellation since as far back as 1890. Moreover, they were the first producer to bottle wine with the sub-region name of Soave on the label in the early 1930s. Leonildo Pieropan was a visionary who produced the first single vineyard wine in Soave, ‘Calvarino,’ in 1971. Since the 2015 vintage, Pieropan wines have been certified organic.

In 1999, the Pieropan family purchased unplanted land on the hill of Garzon, which lies 400 meters above sea level in Cellore Illasi. The Illasi Valley is located west of Soave and has long been reputed as an excellent terroir for premium Valpolicella wines. The vineyard, with its southern exposure, ensures excellent ripening of typical Valpolicella varieties (Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina). The combination of limestone and clay, along with a windy and dry microclimate, creates ideal conditions for producing rich yet always elegant wines.

The name Ruberpan comes from the Latin word ‘Ruber,’ indicating ruby red color, and Pan from the Pieropan family. Ruberpan is made exclusively from fresh grapes, not in the traditional style using dried grapes or “ripasso.” All varieties are macerated and vinified together. The wine then ages in 500 L and 2500 L barrels for a period of 18 to 24 months. It has a ruby red color and an aromatic profile reminiscent of cherries in compote and strawberries in a mildly spicy framework. On the palate, it continues to open in layers of ripe dark fruit, with hints of herbs and forest floor nuances. Ruberpan is ready for immediate consumption but will reward patient tasters with evolution in the bottle.
