WHO?
Altos Las Hormigas have become globally renowned as specialists in Malbec, with a reputation as one of the top 5 producers of this distinctive variety. One of the co-owners of this winery, Pedro Parra, is the world’s leading expert in soil. Winemakers Alberto Antonini and his Tuscan colleague, Antonio Morescalchi, were so impressed by the vineyards surrounding Mendoza that after their first trip to Argentina in 1995, they managed to convince several of their friends to join them in this joint venture.
WHERE?
Altos Las Hormigas is located in Luján de Cuyo, the only officially recognized appellation in Mendoza and one of the best wine-producing areas in the region. The grapes come from vineyards in Medrano, Barrancas, and Lulunta in Mendoza, situated between 900 – 1,000 meters above sea level. The climate here is semi-desert with hot days and cool nights, ultimately allowing for the development of complex aromatic components in the grapes.
WHY?
Almost opaque in its purple color transitioning to ruby at the edges. The lavish nose boasts notes of plums, raspberries, chocolate, and hints of leather. This leads into a powerful, precisely defined palate. Expressive red and black fruits permeate the senses and resonate in a long and elegant finish with an evident mineral signature.
