WHO?
Since its founding in 2003, Bodegas Vetus has been dedicated to preserving the essential regional character of Toro while introducing new concepts and adding new nuances. In 2003, the Antón family, known as Artevino, expanded into Toro, recognizing the region’s future potential. After selecting various vineyards, they produced the first vintage of Vetus, a wine designed to retain the essence of the region while incorporating new nuances and objectives. The success of the wine led them to establish an estate in the heart of the region and build a bodega, which opened in 2008.
WHERE?
Vetus is made from the Tinta de Toro variety on its 20-hectare estate. The land slopes southward, and the cultivation of the vines is carried out with the utmost respect for the environment. The estate is divided into three vineyards of different ages, each in a distinct environment. This allows for individual attention to each vine, and with careful vinification of each plot, it adds more nuances and complexity to the wine.
WHY?
Bodegas Vetus’s primary Spanish red wine, Flor de Vetus, is made from 20-year-old estate vineyards with sandy-loam soils located at an altitude of 700 meters in the heart of DO Toro. The Tinta de Toro variety, after harvesting, the grapes were destemmed, gently pressed, and cold macerated. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. Finally, Flor de Vetus 2019 aged in first and second-fill American and French oak barrels (50/50) for a period of 9 months.
