WHO?
Château Durfort Vivens owes its name to Durfort de Duras, a powerful family from southern France who arrived in Margaux in the 14th century. In 1824, the name Vivens was added to Durfort. In the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855, Chateau Dufort-Vivens was ranked as Second Cru Classé. Vivens, the second wine, first appeared in 2004 and mostly comes from younger plantings in selected parts of the vineyard.
WHERE?
Located in the municipalities of Margaux, Cantenac, and Soussans, Durfort Vivens vines are planted on the hilltops with a deep gravelly profile, an ideal substrate allowing for early and optimal ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The ultimate result is seen in the magnificent expression of velvety tannins’ softness and the freshness and elegance that characterize the great wines of Margaux.
WHY?
Jancis Robinson, one of the leading authorities in the wine world, recently mentioned this Chateau in the context of the best value for money in Bordeaux, and we couldn’t agree more with this statement. If we also add the fact that it’s from the iconic 2019 vintage, globally considered the vintage of the decade in Bordeaux, then this argument makes complete sense. Drink or keep for the next 20 years!
