WHO?
Selvapiana originated in the Middle Ages as a watchtower and defense of the city of Florence to the north, along the valley of the Sieve River. Today, the estate is owned by Silvia and Federico, the children of Franco Masseti, who was a farmer in Selvapiana from 1953 to 1990. Selvapiana currently covers an area of approximately 250 hectares, including 58 hectares of vineyards, 36 hectares of olive groves, and 140 hectares of woodland. The owned land is spread across three municipalities: Rufina, Pelago, and Pontassieve.
WHERE?
Most of the vineyards are located around the Villa, which also functions as the business center. The vineyards bear the names of old farms from the time of land leasing: Vigneto Bucerchiale, Vigneto Fornace, Vigneto Casanova, Vigneto Pesalova, Vigneto Al Pino. Recently, they acquired Vigneto San Martino in Quoni-Erchi in the municipality of Pontassieve, Vigneto Cerlognole in the municipality of Rufina, and Vigneto Pian dè Marroni also in the municipality of Rufina. Selvapiana is a certified organic company; initially, in 1990, only the Fornace vineyard was cultivated according to organic farming methods, to which all vineyards and olive groves have since joined.
WHY?
Compared to Bucerchiale, Vigneto Erchi has a little more red fruit and combines its power with beautiful finesse. Aging in French oak provides structure and depth that will ensure its longevity.
