WHO?
Château Durfort Vivens owes its name to the Durfort de Duras, a powerful family from southern France who settled in Margaux in the 14th century. In 1824, the name Vivens was added to Durfort. In the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855, Chateau Durfort-Vivens was ranked as Second Cru Classé. Vivens, the second wine, first appeared in 2004 and mainly comes from younger vineyards selected from chosen parts of the vineyard.
WHERE?
Located in the municipalities of Margaux, Cantenac, and Soussans, the Durfort Vivens vines are planted on the hilltops with a deep gravelly soil profile, an ideal substrate that allows for early and optimal ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The ultimate result is reflected in the magnificent expression of velvety tannins, freshness, and elegance that characterize great wines from Margaux.
WHY?
Jancis Robinson, one of the leading authorities in the wine world, recently mentioned this Chateau in the context of the best value for money in Bordeaux, and we couldn’t agree more with this statement. Moreover, considering that this is the iconic 2019 vintage, globally regarded as the vintage of the decade in Bordeaux, this claim gains full significance. Drink now or cellar for the next 20 years!
