WHO?
Izadi is situated in Villabuena, in Rioja Alavesa, the highest part of Rioja. The winery is located on the slope of a hill (whose steep slopes, along with gravity, assist in the production process) and was founded by Gonzalo Anton in 1987 as a breakthrough from traditional to a more contemporary expression and vinification. Izadi has established itself as a producer of modern wines that remain faithful to their terroir and are a true expression of their region.
WHERE?
Izadi owns 189 hectares and also purchases grapes from an additional 109 hectares owned by long-time partners – grape growers. The average age of the vines is 45 years, located in a triangle formed by three villages: Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos. Bush vine training is their natural form, as Izadi believes it ensures better exposure of the grapes to the sun, resulting in fuller ripeness and more rounded, fuller-bodied wines.
WHY?
Izadi Reserva represents the authenticity of the grapes, the aforementioned triangle where balance, personality, and precisely defined style come together. Recognized by critics as a torchbearer of the modern style of Rioja, Izadi aims to create a more mature, generous style of Alavesa, symbolizing a more delicate expression of fruit and subtly dosed new oak.
