WHO?
The Fantini Group was born in the small town of Ortona, in the Abruzzo region, in the heart of the Mediterranean. Founded in 1994 by three partners – Filippo, Valentino, and Camillo, also known as the “three dreamers” because they were always capable of realizing their dreams no matter how impossible they seemed, in order to create today’s flagship of Southern Italian wines. Right here is where the largest Italian “boutique winery” was created, implying maximum dedication to details starting from the vineyards.
WHERE?
The vineyards are located in a low cultivation regime, planted on the extinct volcanic slopes of the Vulture volcano/mountain at an altitude of 800 meters. Vulture, a volcano that is no longer active, is located within a larger geographic area that extends to the far north of the Basilicata region. For centuries, the volcano only sowed devastation, but today, grape growers compensate for the historical damage caused by eruptions over the centuries by the ability to cultivate grapevines on volcanic soil rich in minerals, which gives the grapes an authentic character.
WHY?
Fermentation with ambient yeasts without adding sulfur dioxide. Maceration lasting 40 days to maximize the extraction and preservation of the essential polyphenols necessary for natural protection against oxidation in conditions without added sulfur. It has a deep, impenetrable dark color with a purple rim. Aromas of ripe dark cherries intertwined with notes of licorice, plum, and earth, framed in a vanillin cloak and hints of dried herbs. On the palate, a grip of firm but nicely structured tannins, dark fruit, and a saline minerality take the lead. Impressive longevity and complexity for its price range.
