WHO?
Altos Las Hormigas has become globally renowned as specialists in Malbec, with a reputation as one of the top 5 producers of this distinctive variety. One of the co-owners of this winery, Pedro Parra, is the world’s leading expert in soil. Winemakers Alberto Antonini and his Tuscan colleague, Antonio Morescalchi, were so impressed by the vineyards surrounding Mendoza that after their first trip to Argentina in 1995, they managed to convince several of their friends to join them in this joint venture.
WHERE?
Altos Las Hormigas is located in Luján de Cuyo, the only officially recognized appellation in Mendoza and one of the best wine-producing areas in the region. The grapes for this wine come from the alluvial terraces of Altamira, a sub-region located 1,200 meters above sea level. Limestone covered with pebbles and gravel makes up 85% of the soil volume, providing wines with elegance and minerality.
WHY?
A fresh and delicate nose is filled with aromas of red cherries and raspberries combined with herbal notes such as arugula and thyme enveloped in a mineral framework. On the palate, elegance and juiciness take the lead, while finely grained tannins build an impressive structure. A complex, seductive, deeply structured wine with an impressively long finish. Created for immediate enjoyment while patient ones will enjoy its evolution over time.
