WHO?
Winemaker and owner Franco Massolino has accomplished a remarkable feat, setting himself apart from the crowd of today’s winemakers in Barolo. By combining a change that respects tradition in every aspect and letting the character of the vineyards themselves, located in Serralunga d’Alba, speak for itself, he has set the stage for some of the most magnificent, structured, and long-lived wines based on Nebbiolo.
WHERE?
Massolino currently owns 23 hectares, with the grapes for this wine coming from several vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, located at 340 – 360 meters above sea level. Guyot training is practiced, with the vines, averaging 10-45 years old, planted at a density of 5000 – 6000 plants per hectare. The soil composition varies, with a predominant presence of limestone.
WHY?
This fantastic Barolo hails from the sub-zone known for producing the most robust and structured Nebbiolos – Serralunga d’Alba. Winemaker Franco Massolino has achieved an extraordinary feat by introducing a spirit of modernity that respects local heritage, setting himself apart from the crowd of young winemakers in Barolo today. Produced in a traditional manner, these wines faithfully interpret their origins and possess what the Piedmontese call anima – soul.
