WHO?
Charles Heidsieck is the most awarded champagne collection in the world, backed by one of the most renowned winemaking teams in Champagne – chosen 15 times for the prestigious title of ‘Sparkling Winemaker of the Year’. Established in 1851 by a man who introduced champagne to America and became known as ‘Champagne Charlie’. Still family-owned, this champagne house is also the smallest member of the most prestigious champagne club, Grandes Marques.
WHERE?
Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs combines several of the best cru positions for Chardonnay from three classic Champagne subregions. The blend is dominated by vineyards from Côte des Blancs (50% Oger and Vertus), complemented by positions from Montagne de Reims (25% Villers-Marmery, Trépail, and Vaudemange), and a very special location in Montgueux (25% of the final blend), situated in the northern part of the Aube subzone.
WHY?
Through this cuvée, relaunched in 2018 (the first Blanc de Blancs was released in 1947 when only Salon filled this category of champagne), two signature Charles skills merged into one: the production of great white wines and the art of blending large quantities of base wine from different vintages and myriad unique terroirs. The epochal part was achieving the coexistence of two opposites: the tension and freshness of young Chardonnay on one hand, and the silky character of “Charles” on the other. Its intrinsic elegance is framed by structure, generosity, and velvety texture – an amalgam that perfectly embodies the distinctive ‘Charles’ style.
