WHO?
The Škegro Winery started operations in 1996. Long ago, it was almost unheard of for a household not to have a vineyard planted with Žilavka, Blatina, and other indigenous grape varieties. The wine produced was stored in wooden barrels and used mainly for personal consumption. This is how the family story of the Škegro family began, a story in which tradition was passed down from generation to generation until one day it grew into a business that the whole family genuinely enjoys and participates in. The Herzegovinian karst produces renowned wines that have long been used for pleasure and refreshment.
WHERE?
The Škegro Winery has situated its vines in the Herzegovinian region. The vineyards, planted with Žilavka, Blatina, and a few other varieties, are part of the Mostar vineyard area and are located near the cellar in Radišići (Ljubuški). The winery boasts the following wines: Krš Bijeli Žilavka, Krš Crni Blatina, Krš Rose Blatina, Carsus Blatina, Carsus Žilavka, and Krš Orange. The quantities of wine are limited, aiming to achieve the highest quality product. Annually, this amounts to 8000 liters of wine from the basic Krš line, and 4000 liters from the Premium Carsus line. The region, full of sunshine, solid rock, and a healthy ecological foundation with a centuries-old tradition, produces wines of exceptional quality.
WHY?
Blatina is a delicate and mild grape variety typically enjoyed young, but in this case, it has matured in the cellar with the ambition to develop further over time. Over time, the integration of oak imparts the desired effect on Blatina. The fruit becomes deeper, and aromas emerge. The specific earthy note of Blatina comes to the fore, intertwined with dried red and black fruits. Decanting is recommended.
