WHO?
Father and four sons Volarević have been successful in agriculture their entire lives. In 2005, despite the initial idea of planting an olive grove, the family decided to dedicate all their enthusiasm and vision to building a vineyard in an area that had never before been planted with grapevines. Wines produced in the Volarević vineyards bear the name Syrtis, which translates to Pond (the same name as the leading nursery in the Republic of Croatia, also owned by the Volarević family).
WHERE?
The Volarević vineyards are located in the Komarna area. The vineyard construction project began in 2005 with the land improvement of karst terrain. Thick macchia was removed, and the stone was ground to a depth of 60 cm to create optimal conditions for vine growth. The entire vineyard area is on a southern exposure and has three types of insolation: sun – vine; sun – stone – vine; sun – sea – vine. Climatic and pedological conditions in the Komarna area favor organic production. High temperatures during the summer, constant winds, cold nights, rugged nature, and diversity of flora and fauna create favorable conditions for grape growing.
WHY?
Plavac Mali Syrtis – gold edition encapsulates all the characteristics of the terrain where the grapes grew and the love with which it was processed in the family cellar. It is characterized by a deep ruby-red color, dense and almost opaque, with a dark blue hue that remains on the glass’s rim. Complex on the nose, it reveals typical varietal aromas combined with fresh berries and slightly overripe tones alongside typical Mediterranean herb nuances. Through a minimum aging period of 3 years (a combination of Croatian, French, and American barrels as well as large neutral oak barrels), these varietal aromas are framed in a delicate vanilla framework.
