WHO?
The Manetti family has owned Fontodi winery since 1969, but they have been present in the Chianti zone for centuries, earning a reputation as the finest producers of terracotta in the region. In the 1980s, Giovanni Manetti took the helm, applying the same dedication to detail and precision that they demonstrated in crafting terracotta products to their estate and vineyards, gradually transitioning to biodynamic farming principles.
WHERE?
Their 80 hectares of vineyards, of which 90% is Sangiovese, are located in the “conca d’oro” (translated as “golden basin”) in Panzano, the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Over the last six years, the vineyards have been fully managed according to organic viticultural practices. The quality that Sangiovese achieves in these vineyards eliminates any need for other international varieties like Merlot.
WHY?
It has a bright ruby color. The bouquet opens up to ripe dark cherries, violets, and plums, complemented by hints of spices. On the palate, it’s excellent in structure and richness, full-bodied with characteristic finely grained tannins. Whether to drink or to cellar, this is a collector’s item.
