WHO?
John Duval is a legendary name in the global wine scene. As only the third winemaker entrusted with the role of creating Australia’s most iconic wine, Grange, John worked for Penfolds for a full 28 years until his departure in 2002. In 2003, he released his first label under his own name, sourcing grapes from his longtime collaborators in the Barossa Valley.
WHERE?
A partnership built on mutual trust guarantees grapes from vineyards between 50 and 100 years old. Minimal intervention is their main principle, expressing the best that the Barossa can offer. ‘Plexus’ is originally a Rhône blend composed of traditional varieties, Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, which quickly gained a global reputation.
WHY?
Shiraz in this blend enriches with its fullness and depth. Grenache from 60-year-old goblet-trained vines enriches the wine with exceptional aromatics along with softness and generosity on the palate, while Mourvèdre, also from old vines (some over 100 years old), brings a spicy character and tannin structure.
