WHO?
The Manetti family has owned the Fontodi winery since 1969, but they have been present in the Chianti area for centuries, earning a reputation as the finest producers of terracotta in the region. In the 1980s, Giovanni Manetti took the helm, bringing the same dedication to detail and precision they exhibited in crafting terracotta to their estate and vineyards, gradually transitioning to biodynamic farming practices.
WHERE?
Their 80 hectares of vineyards, 90% of which are Sangiovese, are located in the ‘conca d’oro’ (translated as the ‘golden basin’) in Panzano, the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Over the past six years, the vineyards have been fully cultivated using organic farming methods. The quality of Sangiovese achieved in these vineyards eliminates the need for any other international grape varieties like Merlot or others.
WHY?
As for the wine itself, it has a deep ruby-red color. The nose reveals aromas of compote cherries and plums, which gradually give way to notes of leather and tobacco with aeration. It possesses extraordinary depth of flavor, juicy fruit, and ripe tannins that create a finely tuned and polished texture. This brilliantly structured wine finishes with mineral undertones.
